Privacy Policy

Effective September 12, 2026

RelayNest helps families coordinate care after a hospital discharge. That means you trust us with sensitive information about someone you care for. This policy explains what we collect, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. It applies to the RelayNest app for iPhone and iPad and to our website at relaynest.app.

The short version

1. Information we collect

Account information

Your email address and password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider), or the name and email Apple or Google share if you sign in with them. During setup you can add your name, phone number, your relationship to the person you care for, and your preferred language.

Care information you enter

The information you and the people you invite add to a care workspace: the patient's first name and last initial, age or date of birth, discharge date and reason, condition summary, hospital name, medications and dose logs, appointments, tasks, symptoms, questions, notes, and care plans.

Documents and photos

Discharge paperwork, medication lists, and other files or photos you choose to upload.

Health data from Apple Health or Health Connect

Only if you choose to connect it, and read-only: blood pressure, heart rate, blood glucose, blood oxygen, weight, respiratory rate, and body temperature. See section 5.

Technical information

A push-notification token for your device, crash and error reports (filtered to exclude care and health information), and a security log recording that sensitive actions occurred — for example that an account was deleted or a document was downloaded — without their content.

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, or advertising identifiers, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

2. How we use information

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.

3. AI features

Some optional features use artificial intelligence: turning discharge paperwork you scan into a draft medication list, summarizing instructions in plain language, suggesting questions for an appointment, turning a note into tasks, and translating a care plan.

4. Who we share information with

People you invite

Members of a care workspace can see its information according to their role. Owners decide who is invited and can remove people at any time.

Service providers

We use these companies to run RelayNest. They may only use your information to provide their service to us:

To check for possible drug interactions, our servers look up medication names in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's public OpenFDA database. Only the drug names are sent, from our servers, with no information that identifies you or the patient.

Legal reasons

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect someone's safety, or to protect RelayNest's rights. If RelayNest is involved in a merger or acquisition, this policy continues to apply to information transferred.

5. Apple Health and Health Connect

If you connect Apple Health (or Health Connect on Android):

6. How long we keep information, and deleting it

We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from More → Delete account. Deleting your account removes your profile and notifications, removes you from workspaces you share, and permanently deletes any workspace where you are the only owner — including its uploaded documents. Workspaces you share with another owner remain available to them.

For recovery from accidental loss, we keep encrypted backups: daily backups for 7 days and weekly backups for 14 weeks. Deleted information is therefore fully gone from our systems within about 98 days. The security log keeps a record that actions such as an account deletion happened, but not the content of your care information. Server operational logs, which contain no care information, are kept for 30 days.

7. How we protect information

No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects it.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live — for example California, Washington, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, or Nevada — you may have the right to know what personal and consumer health data we hold, to access, correct, or delete it, to withdraw consent, and to appeal our decision on a request. We do not sell personal data or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To make a request, email privacy@relaynest.app. We will verify your request and respond within the time the law requires, and we will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.

Consumer health data

The care and health information described in section 1 is “consumer health data” under laws such as Washington's My Health My Data Act. We collect it from you, from people you invite, and — if you connect it — from Apple Health or Health Connect. We use it only to provide the coordination features you request, share it only as described in section 4, and never sell it.

9. HIPAA

RelayNest is a service families use directly. Unless we have signed an agreement with your healthcare provider, the information you enter is not “protected health information” under HIPAA. This policy, and the laws described in section 8, govern how we handle it.

10. Children

RelayNest accounts are for adults 18 and older, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through accounts. A parent or guardian may enter care information about a child in their care; we process that information on the guardian's behalf.

11. Changes to this policy

We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date. If a change is material, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and we will ask for your permission again where the law or our AI consent requires it.
